The Ultimate Fighter Finale
In my opinion, this year's Ultimate Fighter finale on Spike TV was a better show than some of the UFC pay-per-view shows I've seen in the last year. The Ultimate Fighter Finale lent excitement and anticipation that I haven't felt in a while. Where do I begin?
Marcus Jones vs. Matt Mitrione. The odds/moneylines on this fight were that Mitrione was the dog coming into the fight. Marcus went and stuck with his usual strategy, try to get you down cross leg over your face and pound the top of the head.
Although Marcus Jones MMA style looks more intimidating on his feet he certainly needs some boxing/striking work. Matt Catches Jones in his now famous glass jaw for the win in the second round.
Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexander. Everyone said that Kimbo is nothing and shouldn't be considered a force in MMA. In the first round Houston showed Kimbo the respect by circling for over two minutes into the round only to attack Slice's known problem knee.
Avoiding the kicks to the knee, Kimbo engaged in a slugfest on Alexander even showing some submission skill in attempting multiple rear chokes. Kimbo clearly winning round two and going to round three wanting to give the fans more of a show by inviting Houston to trade licks with him. Kimbo Slice winning the fight in a unanimous decision.
Roy Nelson vs. Brendan Schaub. This fight really could have went either way. But we haven't seen Roy lose a fight in a long time. Specifically, seven fights ago when Josh Curran defeated Roy by decision in December 2006.
Roy laid out his usual game plan of getting his opponent into a crucifix position, pinning the arms and punch the head until the ref stops the fight. He almost completed this against Brendan but ended up defeating Schaub with a knock out punch delivered just behind the ear giving Nelson the title of Ultimate Fighter 10 winner.
Just these three fights made the excitement and anticipation of the show that I alluded to earlier. Even though that this season of TUF hasn't been the most action packed fights the end did provide some good entertainment from the coaches. Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson's rantings and in each others face taunting builds up a great fight. If that will ever happen I don't know.
I know this is late but I still had this on my mind, what do you think?
Comment and let us know.
